Food Sovereignty
Food Sovereignty has been defined by peasants, social and people’s movements as the right of people, communities and countries to determine their own production systems, related to agricultural labour, fishing, food, land and associated policies which are ecologically, socially, economically and culturally appropriate to their circumstances.
Agroecology
Agroecology is an imperative approach to the food system that aims to shift from technology transfer to capacity building and empowerment of farmers, from the rural poor forced into the global value chain to building local economies and shifting away from agricultural exports to food sovereignty and local markets.
Aside from sustainable agriculture and rejecting chemicals in farming practices, agroecology should include political, socio-cultural, environmental and economic aspects to say that agroecology have become the norm.
